  4.     We surely can't fault those overeager youngsters who apply for
  5. admission to U.S. colleges and universities and offer proof of
  6. their talents in videotapes, paintings and cookies (EDUCATION, 
  7. Dec. 19). They will, after all, grow up. But what about those
  8. gatekeepers at the halls of higher learning, college admissions
  9. officers? Are they really not taken in by these sycophantic,
  10. exhibitionist and plasticized efforts to be noticed?
